As I make my work I am digesting my thoughts and memories with a visual thought process. I am intrigued with the power of art production to be not only a tool for expression but also one of discovery as the concept evolves with the production. Most of the work I do for myself combines imagery of the human condition and human relationships with imagery from some other realm – nature, family, the environment, art history, religion, and science are favorites. The combination helps me understand those realms in human terms. Imagery from those other realms serves as metaphor that helps me make sense of humanity.
I am also trying to emerge as a professional commision based artist - portraits, memorials, landscapes, and other personal visions. My great great grandfather Leon Lippert supported his family as a portrait painter and I would like to borrow from that tradition. Working with individuals to create a prized piece of art is a sensitive and creative partnership enjoyed by both parties. I enjoy the challeng of getting to know clients, helping them articulate their vision and then rendering it in a way that speaks to them now and for generations to come. A variety of media - painting, drawing, water color and ceramics are all possibilities. Approaches and styles are limited only by the imagination of the client.
